Sen-Fre

'Sen-Fre' is a fictional science article created for Britt Pavelson's 'Beauty Magazine' class, exploring interdimensional beings. The project blends traditional clay techniques with digital sculpting, merging both approaches into a pseudo-scientific, fantasy-driven narrative. For the article, I 3D-scanned a clay hand sculpture I made, shaping it into forms resembling fossils. The goal was to fuse my creative process with imagination, crafting a world where science meets mysticism. I created a mock-up sample for my portfolio, while the printed version is part of a collaborative magazine featuring articles by my classmates.

In Ott Kagovere's class at EKA, I explored various methods of creating grid systems and using design to highlight them.

Visual identity and animations for 'The Longest Day Fest,' a midsummer festival celebrating the longest day of the year."

Visuals for SORR's ambient music album 'Sentience,' drawing inspiration from its experimental yet spiritual sound. The chosen symbol was an angel sculpture. The focus of the work is an emerald crystal-like texture that deforms the angel's shape throughout the animation, turning it into an abstract form in a snowfall. The visuals, combined with the transcendent sound of the music, create a captivating audiovisual experience.

GENEX

This project delves into generative typography, exploring how design emerges from seemingly chaotic processes. The publication features text from Richard Dawkins' "The Blind Watchmaker," which discusses evolution and the illusion of design in nature. I utilized Processing to create various computer-generated letters and employed InDesign's GREP mode to transform the book's text into intricate patterns, applying unique rulesets for each chapter. The project was showcased at KABK The Hague, where it included an interactive coded interface allowing users to modify dynamically generated letters.

During Charlotte Rohde's workshop at EKA, I created a poster using typefaces designed by a classmate. The concept was to develop letterforms that were both angular and wavy—organic in nature. I visualized this by applying a concrete texture to the angular sections, reflecting modernist visual language, while covering the wavy parts with plant elements. Inspired by the workshop's theme, 'Graphic Wellness,' I aimed to create a naive, celestial scene, incorporating models of human characters into the design.

I created a series of flyer designs for a fictional event during my typography class at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (KABK). Each week, I produced 50 designs while adhering to specific constraints. The large volume of work pushed me to experiment with techniques I hadn't tried before, greatly enhancing my intuitive approach to typography. I explored various experimental solutions, focusing on the visual effects generated by text repetition.

Made for the STARTER-KIT zine, the series explores the notion of apparent randomness within a digital environment. These curated items, forming composed studio arrangements, contain hidden hints that reveal facets of their owners' personality. The viewer is encouraged to reflect on the extent to which we integrate physical objects into the digital realm as a means of expressing our identity.

This installation features a screen crafted from natural bark, serving as an organic canvas for a simulated growth of fungus. Over the course of four minutes, the fungus grows from nothing to its full form, visually symbolizing the unchecked proliferation of environmental damage. The fungus is procedurally generated, with its growth parameters derived from a dataset linked to CO2 emissions. This connection between the organic form and digital data critiques the often-overlooked environmental impact of server farms and digital infrastructure, drawing attention to the significant carbon footprint associated with our online activities. The work was exhibited as part of "I Will Always Remember," a 2022 exhibition by EKA Graphic Design students. By merging the natural with the digital, the piece invites viewers to reflect on the hidden costs of technological progress and to consider the environmental consequences of the seemingly intangible digital world.

Structura in Somnia

Made for the GO TO BED event organized by the students of Baltic Film, Media and Arts School. This short animation is inspired by a dream I once had. As I was flying above the tropical and otherworldly island landscape, I noticed a giant structure whose architecture reminded me of both a pyramid and a star, with its numerous sides. I didn't know its purpose, but I was certain it had been built by humans long ago. Curiosity led me inside, where I roamed around this ancient structure and realized that it resembled a museum or a repository of some remote past knowledge. Illuminated by a blue light that resembled holograms, I recognized the shapes of humanoids. This left me with more questions than answers. When I woke up, I knew I wanted to recreate this structure. The sound is composed by Karl Kevad based on my animation and description.
